Overflow/Fluids 2008
L.A. Art Girls
Overflow/Fluids was curated by Andrew Perchuk, with assistance from Donna Conwell. Karen Dunbar served as the L.A. Art Girl Coordinator. Overflow/Fluids was held at the The Getty Center from April 26 – April 27, 2008.
Overflow is a six month project by the L.A. Art Girls that reimagines Alan Kaprow's 1967 happening Fluids. Overflow, a work of community and remembrance, explores the social aspects of Kaprow’s practice through a series of engagements, activities and events. Kelly Thompson carved and colored ice blocks for the event.
The following artists assisted with the construction of the rectangular structure of ice blocks: Karen Dunbar, Stef Allespach, Krista Chael, Sydney Croskery, Angela Ellsworth, Phyllis Green, Micol Hebron, Parichard Holm, Leigh McCarthy, Nancy Popp, Sarah Riley, Felis Stella, Ten Terrell, Elizabeth Tremante and Marjan Vayghan, Chloe Boleyn, Tania Katan, Tricia Lawless Murray, Meg Madison, Oona Nelson, Susan Silton, DeAnna Skedel and Kelly Thompson.
"During two days, a rectangular structure of ice blocks (measuring about 30 feet long, 10 wide and 8 high) will be built at the Getty Center. The walls will be broken, dismantled and repurposed. The remains of these activities will be left to melt."—L.A. Art Girls
